CBT, ACT & Cajón Lessons with Nissim Ashkenazi
Lets focus on the Cajón. To learn more about CBT and ACT feel free to explore the rest of the site.
Cajón is Spanish for drawer. However, it is also an instrument, made from a modest wooden box. It’s beauty lies in it’s simplicity. At first glance it appears to be no more than a small wooden box or crate, however it’s intricate inner structure enables it to produce complex sounds, similar to those of a real drum set.
Why learn to play the Cajón?
We’ll start with the basics, and then discuss it’s cognitive benefits:
- Develop a sense of rhythm and coordination
- Much smaller than a full size drum set
- All the beautiful sounds of a real drum set but with control over the volume.
- Unsure how seriously your child is actually committed to learning the drums? Start small
Cognitive Benefits: As a therapist, I use the cajón as a platform to work on regulating emotions such as anger management, will power, struggle with failure, anxiety, self image and self empowerment. However, those who join my classes, do so first and foremost in order to acquire a new musical skill set. The therapeutic benefits of the learning process are available for those interested.
Lesson Options
- Individual Lessons – We’ll cover different styles and rhythms as well as develop the skills necessary to play as part of a group/ensemble
- Individual Therapy – Using the cajón as part of the therapeutic treatment. We’ll work on the different cognitive benefits cited above
- Group Lessons – Up to five students all around the same age
- Group Therapy
How long will each session last?
About forty minutes.
What is your prior experience?
Following 13 years as director of an Ulpan at Machon Meir where I was heavily involved in the world of social work, 4 years of experience in the field of CBT following B.B.A. and Psychology studies at The University of Kent, B.Ed. from Herzog College, ACT and CBT certification from the Israeli Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Psychotherapy and Anxiety and Depression Treatment certification by Dr. Russ Harris at Psychwire I have decided to incorporate my lifelong love of music into my therapeutic practice.
I would be honored to teach and introduce your children to the wonderful world of strength and growth they already posses!
